Italian Newspaper Creates Worst Swag-Bag Ever
Il Giornale, the Italian newspaper owned by the controversial former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, is under fire for distributing free copies of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf with a paid supplement in its Saturday edition. The promotion has sparked international outrage. Simon Wiesenthal Center Director Efraim Zuroff said it was unprecedented for a newspaper to use Mein Kampf to boost sales. German newspapers in the 1940s didn’t even do that. The center-right newspaper claims it distributed the book for deconstruction, not as an apology for Naziism. Still, the Israeli embassy, as well as many Italians, found it surprising and incredibly awkward.
