Unions Call For Exemption From The $15 Minimum Wage They Fought For

Los Angeles City Council heard a proposal yesterday to exempt union members from a $15 an hour minimum wage — the very same $15 minimum wage that the unions spent years fighting for. The proposal for exemption was first introduced last year, but unions put it on hold after receiving massive criticism for what appears to be blatant hypocrisy. Unions argue that exemption from the rule would give them the freedom to negotiate better agreements, which just might have to include lower wages. Sound familiar? That was essentially the argument opponents of the $15 minimum wage used.
