“Mister, can you spare 21 cents?” Here are six important facts on the gender wage gap that we learned from #EqualPayDay.

IN A NUTSHELL: MUST READ
Brazil: The FIFA Of NationsBrazil, the world’s fifth most populous country and ninth largest economy, faces a political crisis of epic proportions. Yesterday, a congressional committee voted to impeach President Rousseff for “unconstitutionality, illegality and fiscal irresponsibility.” The full Congress still needs to vote to remove her before the Senate gets its say in the matter.

That’s pretty bad. Is there more? LOL, that’s just the beginning. Rousseff said her VP was trying to overthrow her in a “coup” via the impeachment proceedings, but a Supreme Court judge ordered impeachment proceedings against the VP himself. Plot twist! That’s not all, the two people who might succeed the President after the VP are also implicated in their own corruption charges, as is former President Lula. Not only that, but one of the guys who voted for her impeachment in the committee is wanted for money laundering in France. GOOD READ: An Interview With Former President Lula

#pnut4prez: Missouri Finally Gets Around To Counting Votes

It has been nearly a month since voters cast their ballots in the Missouri primary, and the state has finally announced the winners. Trump beat Cruz by a narrow 0.2% lead, while Clinton passed Sanders by the same margin. It wasn’t all bad for the Bern yesterday, after the Colorado Democratic Party admitted it misreported its caucus results and gave Sanders an extra delegate after all. Who knew counting votes could be so difficult?  Meanwhile, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan says he “does not want” the Republican nomination for president. You would think the fact that he isn’t running, has zero delegates and clearly doesn’t want the job would disqualify him from the race without the need to hold a press conference… but alas, the Republican establishment is still in denial.

NUTS AND BOLTS: SHOULD READ

Brussels And Paris: More Charges, More Arrests It was a busy day for investigators in Brussels yesterday. Not only were three people detained in Brussels for suspected links to the Paris attacks, but two more men have been charged with aiding a suicide bomber in the Brussels attacks. A judge will decide today whether the three people linked to the Paris attacks should remain in custody. Meanwhile, the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office confirmed that the charged individuals were renting an apartment in the Etterbeek area of Brussels that served as a hideout for the bomber.

Unions Call For Exemption From The $15 Minimum Wage They Fought ForLos Angeles City Council heard a proposal yesterday to exempt union members from a $15 an hour minimum wage — the very same $15 minimum wage that the unions spent years fighting for. The proposal for exemption was first introduced last year, but unions put it on hold after receiving massive criticism for what appears to be blatant hypocrisy. Unions argue that exemption from the rule would give them the freedom to negotiate better agreements, which just might have to include lower wages. Sound familiar? That was essentially the argument opponents of the $15 minimum wage used.  Boko Haram Causing A Surge In Child Suicide BombingUNICEF reports that child suicide bombing has increased elevenfold in West Africa this year. One in every five suicide bombers used by Boko Haram in the past two years has been a child, most of which are young girls. In another disturbing report, Amnesty International estimates Boko Haram has kidnapped about 2,000 girls since 2014 for use as cooks, sex slaves and suicide bombers. Keeping Our Eye On…
  • Panama: Because the country doesn’t have enough problems, the coast of Panama is suffering from thousands of swarming crabs, baffling biologists.
  • North Carolina: Responding to backlash, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed an executive order to partially change the “bathroom law” that banned anti-discrimination protections for gay and transgender people.
  • Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant and Jimmy Page must face a jury over whether the intro to “Stairway to Heaven” was stolen from the band Spirit.

LOOSE NUTS: FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT

UK Government Worried About Too Much Anal SexAccording to an official consultation, the British government is concerned that an increasing number of young people are trying anal sex. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport issued the document with plans to restrict the country’s access to online pornography. While there are many criticisms against the pornography industry out there, including sexism and worker’s rights, this report focused almost solely on the need to “reduce the numbers of people trying anal sex.” No word yet on whether they’ll ban Kanye for his reluctant endorsement of butt stuff as well.
